Vets have confirmed that 2017 was officially the UK’s
worst year for cases of the deadly dog disease Alabama
Rot, after the number of confirmed cases almost doubled
compared to 2016. Eight new cases from December, and
two in January 2018, have just been confirmed by Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists. There have now been 122
cases in the UK since the disease was first detected in 2012.
The 10 new cases are in Sacriston (County Durham),
Guiseley (West Yorkshire), Bury and Bolton (Greater
Manchester), Leek (Staffordshire), Petworth (West Sussex),
Brighton (East Sussex), West Coker (Somerset), Bishop’s
Tawton (Devon), and in Presteigne in Powys, which is a new
county to have a case of Alabama Rot confirmed.
While there is currently no known way to prevent a dog
from contracting the disease, any concerned dog owners
