BSAVA has produced vaccination Guidance for small animal practitioners during the COVID-19 lockdown to support the updated, top line advice issued by RCVS and BVA over the Easter weekend.
The Guidance is evidence-based and provides additional detail that aims to assist veterinary professionals when risk-assessing the need for vaccination whilst applying their professional and clinical judgement. It is part of a suite of tools BSAVA has produced for the profession, in collaboration with a range of veterinary contributors.
BSAVA President, Sue Paterson said: “I am proud that the Guidance was principally produced by BSAVA volunteers who generously donated their free time to it, much of which was over the Easter weekend. In line with BSAVA’s core ethos, the Guidance is ‘By the profession for the profession’.”
BSAVA consulted as widely as possible within a confined time frame, obtaining input from specialists in internal medicine, advanced practitioners in primary care practice, primary care vets on the front line, exotic specialists, advanced practitioners in exotic primary care practice and shelter medicine vets.
BSAVA is currently working on further Guidance for use during the COVID-19 lockdown which will cover neutering and should be available to the profession as soon as possible.
