Success for BSAVA Congress Clinical Abstracts programme

Online sessions involved 47 presenters and 49 presentations using an online video conferencing solution

The BSAVA’s Congress Clinical Abstracts programme, held last month, achieved the largest audience for clinical abstracts in Congress’ history, with presenters participating from Finland to Indiana.

A diverse programme of clinical abstracts has always been an integral part of Congress where researchers alongside vets, VN’s and practice staff share the latest research, unusual case reports and novel procedures.

Chaired by BSAVA’s incoming President Professor Ian Ramsey, the online sessions involved 47 presenters and 49 presentations using an online video conferencing solution. The presentations covered topics such as surgery, neurology, internal medicine and oncology and were shared with a veterinary audience from around the UK and worldwide. The presentations, which averaged 160 attendees at each of the four sessions running over two days, generated plenty of interaction from the audience, and numerous questions to the speakers.

“BSAVA Congress: The Abstract Sessions were an innovation in the interactive presentation of Clinical Research Abstracts that firmly combined BSAVA’s clinical science and education at the forefront of our response to the pandemic”, said Ian Ramsey, incoming BSAVA President.

“BSAVA is delighted that so many young clinical researchers were able to present their findings to such a large and international audience. This was probably the largest audience for clinical research abstracts that any veterinary conference has ever achieved and feedback has been very positive. We will use this experience in future BSAVA congresses to enhance our offering in clinical research to audiences around the world.”

The abstract videos can be watched via Congress on Demand, an extensive online educational resource designed to deliver over 100 hours of planned lectures that would have taken place at BSAVA Congress in April.
