The Poultry industry is being offered a ground-breaking new weapon against deadly avian flu – amidst warnings of a fresh wave of bird infections in Europe.
Antimicrobial technology experts, Zoono Animal Health UK, have launched a range of new, water-based, antimicrobial disinfectant and surface protectors – moving away from largely chemical solutions to guard against toxicity for animals and users alike.
Zoono’s products have proved to be effective against pathogens such as Salmonella and enveloped viruses, including all strains of Coronavirus, with more than 150 independent tests conducted worldwide.
They offer longer-lasting protection than traditional techniques used against diseases such as avian influenza. A single application lasts up to 30 days – ensuring safer environments for animals and farmers alike.
Talks about the DEFRA-approved products are being planned with major players in the poultry industry and with broader animal welfare bodies.
UK industry interest has been heightened by a recent spike in infections in France – where there are reported plans to cull 600,000 birds – with concerns that the outbreak could spark a new wave of cases in the UK, as CEO of Zoono Animal Health UK, Marc Braterman, explains.
He says: “Our products have already registered extremely positive results at some of the largest poultry sites across the world – in places such as New Zealand, Australia and the USA – and have received backing from many senior poultry vets.
“Given this track record, we’re confident that we can play a similar role in protecting against fresh outbreaks of Avian Influenza over here and are delighted to launch in the UK.”
He adds: “In addition to enhancing animal welfare, using Zoono Animal Health products has resulted in significant savings on many different levels – not least in terms of feed costs, additional weight gains per bird and associated labour savings.”
