Solantel Pour-on is a closantel-based flukicide, licensed for the treatment of late immature (greater than seven weeks) and adult Fasciola hepatica (liver fluke) infestations in cattle. Solantel Pour-on provides a stress-free, easy to use single active flukicide treatment, with activity against late immature and adult fluke, including triclabendazole resistant fluke.
Dan Griffiths, BVetMed, CertDHH, MRCVS, veterinary advisor for Norbrook, says Solantel Pour-On can be integrated into most holistic animal health plans and offers a much needed additional flukicide option for cattle farmers.
“The farming industry will be aware that heavy fluke burdens can significantly affect the health and productivity of cattle, with additional fattening times of 31 days seen in cattle even with very low fluke burdens. We cannot simply ignore these parasites but we must tackle them responsibly. A comprehensive flukicide strategy is a vital component of any animal health plan, which should be composed of management strategies and any necessary anthelmintic treatments.”
Closantel, the active ingredient in Solantel Pour-on is a single active flukicide which is the same active present in Norbrook’s Closamectin range for cattle and sheep (Closantel and Ivermectin) and Solantel Drench for sheep (Closantel only). As a stand-alone flukicide, Solantel Pour-on offers cattle farmers a flexible choice where fluke control is required without the need for roundworm treatment at the same time.
Mark Collinson, general manager for Norbrook Laboratories (GB) Ltd, explains how this is an important milestone for the company in UK. “The launch of Solantel Pour-on is a result of us listening to feedback from the farming community and several years of development. We are delighted to launch the only single active pour on flukicide for cattle and it nicely complements our current flukicide portfolio.
“Fluke parasites can have a serious impact on animal health and welfare, as well as financial implications for farmers, so we are proud to be able to provide another product to help reduce the economic impact of these parasites.”
Solantel Pour-on for cattle is available in three different pack sizes (1 litre; 2.5 litre and 5 litre) and an appropriate dosing applicator is also available.
