Tailwise wins Best in Show at the 2021 Petcare Innovation Summit.
Sam Worthy, Tailwise co-founder, accepted the award and thanked the investors, his team and the pioneering breeders and pet parents who had believed in the novel concept.
Tailwise creates a safe space to connect and match prospective puppy owners with vetted dog breeders.
It brings together caring breeders with genuine, potential owners keen to find their forever puppy.
Everybody who uses Tailwise pledges to put dog welfare above all else. The service is free to use for ethical, caring breeders, who aim to breed the happiest, healthiest puppies they can. Pet parents pay a fee if they successfully acquire a well-bred pup, and the glowing Trust Pilot reviews reflect that the public think it is worth every penny.
Sam Worthy started Tailwise when he narrowly avoided being scammed when he and his partner wanted to add a dog into their family. It was obvious to him that there is a serious problem that needed fixing – so he set about launching Tailwise.
“In time Tailwise will also work with ethical progressive rescues too and encourage breeders who want to acquire early learning skills making the pups they produce more easily adapt to their new lives. Many Tailwise breeders already housetrain their pups and get them into sleep patterns that will make life so much easier for their new owners.
“If dogs go from one loving home to another, we feel sure there will be much fewer dogs ending up in rescue.
“Tailwise also offers mentorship to novice breeders – the Kennel Club have long known that most pups are the product of people breeding just one litter in their lifetime. Tailwise can help these people access advice on health testing and healthy rearing while holding their hands helping them match good owners to their precious pups.”
Beverley Cuddy, Editor of Dogs Today magazine for 30 years joined Tailwise in November 2020. “I have spent most of my life campaigning against puppy farming, I was very involved in Lucy’s Law. We all celebrated when we at last banned the pup from the pet shop window, but the pandemic meant that the virtual online variant discovered how to sell direct and deliver.
“Puppy farmers prospered as never before as they hiked their prices ever higher. When Tailwise founder Sam Worthy started talking about Tailwise I quickly realised this could be the game changer we all needed. I got so excited by the concept I joined the company as their CDO – Chief Dog Officer.
“Dogs are family not commodity and Tailwise reflects that ethos. It hopes to end breeding slavery and ensure that all dog mums have as full a life as possible outside of reproduction. Pet parents are matched as early as possible and really get to know their breeder before being entrusted with one of their precious pups and accessing a lifetime of aftercare.
“Of course Tailwise won Best in Show. It is a genius idea.”
