Applications open to become VetGDP peer reviewers

VetGDP Advisors who have completed their online learning can now apply to become VetGDP peer reviewers for the RCVS’s Vet Graduate Development Programme

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has opened up applications for VetGDP Advisers who have completed the online learning and are ideally supporting a graduate, to become Vet Graduate Development Programme (VetGDP) peer reviewers. Peer reviewers will play an integral role in the VetGDP, as they will be responsible for reviewing and giving their feedback on completed e-portfolio submissions from graduates who are enrolled on the programme. All of the graduates’ submissions will be anonymised.

The VetGDP e-portfolio allows veterinary graduates to reflect on their learning and monitor their progress throughout their first veterinary role. The main role of VetGDP peer reviewers is to assess if a graduate is ready to be signed off as having completed the programme, following a review of their e-portfolio. This review considers the graduate’s reflections and feedback relating to each of the Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) that are relevant to their role, to ensure the appropriate success criteria have been met. If the criteria have not been met, peer reviewers will be able to give their feedback to help graduates meet the requirements they need to complete the programme.

Applicants will need to be VetGDP Advisers who have completed the online training and ideally will themselves be providing support directly to a graduate in the workplace. Prospective peer reviewers can apply by logging into their RCVS My Account, registering their interest and choosing which of the areas they would be interested in reviewing for. This include companion animal, farm animal, equine, mixed (any combination) or government. VetGDP peer reviewers will also be able to claim £50 for every completed portfolio they provide feedback on.

RCVS Director of Education Dr Linda Prescott-Clements said: “This is a great opportunity for members of the profession to play a key role in supporting the development of new veterinary graduates. VetGDP peer reviewers will be supported throughout the process by the Education Team. Reviewing applications will also go towards peer reviewers’ annual CPD requirements and will give them the opportunity to learn more about graduate experiences of the workplace.”
