Charity pet blood bank UK has this month announced local vet practice Davies Veterinary Specialists (Davies) as one of the runner ups in its heart of pet blood bank award 2020-21. Davies was recognised with the host venue award for their outstanding support of the charity and its work.
Davies, based in Higham Gobion, Hertfordshire, has been supporting pet blood bank since 2011, earning them a spot as one of the charity’s longest standing donation venues. As well as offering space in their practice for the dog blood donation sessions to run, Davies goes the extra mile to offer additional support to the charity. This was especially prominent during the pandemic when the practice offered valuable support surrounding the safe reintroduction of dog owners attending pet blood bank donation appointments with their pets, following a period of dogs not being able to be accompanied by their owners due to COVID risks.
The heart of pet blood bank awards seek to recognise inspiring people and dogs who go the extra mile to support the charity. The host venue award celebrates the vet practices who provide pet blood bank with space and facilities to run their donation sessions, but who also go above and beyond to support the charity and its work.
Davies was presented with their award at a virtual awards ceremony hosted by pet blood bank on Thursday 26 May.
Nicole Osborne from pet blood bank UK said: “Davies has been a huge supporter of our work for a very long time. Their whole team are so passionate about what we do and really get behind our work. It is only with fantastic support like this that we can operate our charity, so we are very grateful to Davies and are delighted to be able to formally recognise this support by giving them this award.”
Hannah Perry, wards supervisor at Davies said: “We are delighted and very proud to have been recognised by pet blood bank in this way. All credit is due to our tireless team, our lovely local dog owners and the hairy heroes themselves. Together we are continuing to help replenish blood supplies and save the lives of other dogs across the UK.”
Pet blood bank is the only charity offering a lifesaving blood service for all dogs across the UK. Just like the human blood service, dog owners kindly bring their much-loved companions to give blood at one of the charity’s many donation sessions across the country. This blood is then processed and stored, ready to be sent out to vets when they need it for a patient. The blood is truly lifesaving with every donation having the potential to help save up to four other dogs.
More dog donors are always needed to keep up with the increasing demand for blood products. If you have a happy, healthy, and confident dog who is aged between one and eight years old and over 25 kilograms they could be a lifesaver. To find out more, please visit their website.
