The Society of Practicing Veterinary Surgeons (SPVS) and the Veterinary Management Group (VMG) Congress event was officially kicked off with an inspirational opening session from firefighter, psychologist and writer Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, who was joined by some stimulating new speakers along with the return of some of the events most popular presenters from recent years.
In addition to the five non-clinical lecture streams and Saturday afternoon interactive workshops, the Congress weekend was packed with opportunities to meet with a wide-ranging variety of suppliers, catch-up with friends old and new, and let your hair down with the fabulous party band, The Kings, at the Friday night Presidents’ Party.
SPVS President Andrew Parker said: “The SPVS VMG Congress was a fantastic success this year, it was the first time we have met up face to face for over two years, and what a difference that makes.
“It was the perfect forum for networking, one of the major losses during the pandemic – in person interaction with the conference exhibitors and delegates was invaluable. It was also a great opportunity to have meaningful CPD with a varied and interesting programme.
“We are grateful for the sponsors and the exhibitors supporting the event, in particular our headline sponsors Elanco and Citation.”
Georgina Hills, VMG president, added: “It’s almost difficult to put into words how great it was to all be back together and to have a genuinely shared experience. The lecture programme was varied and had something for everyone, the challenge being which lecture to attend, so having the recordings again this year will be a bonus.
“The atmosphere and networking showed what a collaborative and supportive industry we have and of which I think we should all be proud. Thank you to SPVS, VMG, the event organisers and the ICC.”
It was announced at the event that this will be the last joint Congress for the two associations. Moving forward SPVS and VMG will be offering separate congresses that will be focused on meeting the specific needs of their own members and helping to guide the wider veterinary profession through the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
This may have been the last joint Congress, but they certainly went out on a high.
