Seventy-four percent of students are unaware of the CPD options available to them after graduation

Improve Veterinary Education is helping to secure the next generation of veterinary professionals by discussing the career pathways and CPD options available with veterinary students

Improve Veterinary Education helped veterinary students at Bristol Veterinary School gain valuable insights into their futures as veterinary professionals last week.

The talk led by Dr Charlotte French, MA, VetMB, BSc (ARCS), PGCVetEd, FHEA, MRCVS, was held in the institution’s Churchill Lecture Theatre.

In the presentation, Charlotte discussed her own veterinary career in practice and education, how students could craft their own career pathways and how to plan their CPD to meet RCVS requirements.

Sha also shared her research which was conducted online in 2020 and completed by 102 UK veterinary students.

It revealed that 74 percent of students stated they were not aware of the CPD options available to them after graduation and a significant 98 percent said they were willing to be involved in extracurricular CPD if it was available.

Other methods that were discussed to help with career progression included the training, both practical and theoretical provided by Improve Veterinary Education.

Earning globally-recognised certificates which are accredited and awarded by the International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ISVPS) was also discussed.

Many of these certificates lead to RCVS Advanced Practitioner status.

Attendees were also entered into a raffle for a free annual subscription to Improve Veterinary Practice Membership to help the winner complete their first year of CPD in practice at no expense. To find out more, visit
