The International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM)’s new interactive feline endocrinology course offers a new style of continuing education that is practical, engaging and uses real cases and results from author and head of veterinary specialists at ISFM, Dr Sam Taylor.
In practice (both primary care and referral), endocrinopathies are common in middle-aged to older cats, particularly diabetes mellitus and hyperthyroidism.
While some cases are straightforward, others can be challenging in terms of diagnosis and management.
This exciting new course allows veterinarians to make clinical decisions as they learn, working through the consultation, examination, results and treatment as they would in practice while answering questions to cement their learning.
Using real-life scenarios, the course brings together theory and practice, exploring interactions with feline patients and working through challenges commonly encountered in clinical practice.
Sam said: “I really enjoyed writing this course. It is so different to other CPD/CE courses.
“We have used real cases and real test results and I have been honest about the limitations and challenges of treating some cases of diabetes mellitus and hyperthyroidism.
“The cases follow the twists and turns of real-life feline medicine cases, not just those that follow the textbook!
In the course, we have all the theory you need, but I know I always remember things better when applied to a case rather than in a load of text.
“I hope we have covered the tricky and the straightforward of diabetes and hyperthyroidism, but in a holistic way, thinking about cat friendly interactions with the cats, comorbidities and things like adverse effects and complications – so really warts and all!’
Interactive Feline Endocrinology will be available from 26 April as an on-demand online course that allows learners to study at their own pace.
Veterinarians are invited to pre-register now to secure an early bird price of £495 plus tax (available until 26 April, when regular pricing will resume at £520 plus tax).
