Humanimal Trust, founded in 2014 by orthopaedic-neuro veterinary surgeon Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, will host the first in a series of One Medicine webinars on 5 May.
The series will explore the links between humans and animals and the importance of One Medicine.
Humanimal Trust drives collaboration between vets, doctors, researchers, nurses and allied professions so all humans and animals benefit from sustainable and equal medical progress, but not at the expense of an animal’s life.
Each month, the charity will host a webinar on a different area of One Medicine, with speakers ranging from academics and scientists to practitioners and professionals from across the fields of human and animal medicine.
The series will culminate in a live event on 6 May 2024 – One Medicine Day – to celebrate the Trust’s 10th anniversary.

“Collaboration between human and animal medical professionals is fundamental to this.
“In the run up to our 10th anniversary, we wanted to create a platform for all those involved in making One Medicine happen to share the inspiring work they are doing to bring about positive change for all beings.”
The first One Medicine webianr, which will take place at 12.30pm (BST) on Friday 5 May, will bring together Joe and Humanimal Trust research support manager Iva Hauptmannova.
Together, they will explore what One Medicine looks like today and the potential for how it could look in the future.
“Education underpins everything we do. It is only by educating the next generation of professionals, starting at the very earliest stage, that we will change the professional landscape for One Medicine.
“With this in mind, each webinar will attract different audiences from veterinary and human medical clinicians to researchers, students and young people,” said Joe.
Other speakers include Dr Catherine Pendegrass, associate professor at University College London, who will discuss osseointegration in humans and animals, and Nick Jukes, coordinator of InterNICHE, who will share his thoughts on humane education.
