The British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) is calling on all its RVN members to stand for election onto BVNA Council, with three full (RVN) seats available.
Becoming a BVNA Council member is a fantastic opportunity to represent and champion the veterinary nursing profession; informing its future and being part of the drive for change.
What does being a BVNA Council member involve?
BVNA Council usually comprises twelve RVNs and three SVNs elected by BVNA members, sharing a common desire to represent the veterinary nursing profession and complete belief in what veterinary nursing can achieve. Supported by a staff team, BVNA Council set the association’s strategic direction and may represent BVNA at veterinary events, including BVNA Congress. The council meets every eight weeks; twice per year at the BVNA head office in Harlow, with the remaining meetings held online.
Council members are elected for three years. The terms of office are staggered, so there will always be new members elected onto BVNA Council every year. While there are three RVN seats available in the 2024 election, the council’s three student seats are currently filled – SVNs will next be invited for election in 2025.
Important attributes for candidates are a strong commitment to promoting BVNA values, as well as the veterinary nursing profession in general, and a willingness to devote time and effort to representing their fellow members.
BVNA Council is made up of members from a diverse range of backgrounds and career paths within the profession – from clinical practice, industry, education, research, charity and more. Recognising the positive value of diversity, BVNA welcomes nominations from all sectors of the profession and society.
Nomination and election process
Nominations are open between Friday 1st and Sunday 31st March 2024. To become a candidate, a BVNA member must be nominated by two other members. BVNA members can visit their portal here to find out how to nominate or be nominated for the election.
Voting will be open to BVNA members from early June. The election results will be announced in July, with successful candidates ratified at the BVNA AGM at BVNA Congress, on Sunday 13th October 2024.
