Four weeks to go to the BVNA Congress 2024

The British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) Congress is the UK’s largest annual event dedicated to the veterinary nursing profession, taking place between Friday 11 to Sunday 13 October 2024 at Telford International Centre.

There are over twenty lecture streams dedicated to RVNs and SVNs, with a brand-new stream for VCAs too. What’s more, the programme is fully inclusive – whatever your job role, clinical or non-clinical, you’re fully welcome to join any of the sessions. As the congress gets closer, here are a few highlights to give you a preview of what to expect from this year’s event.

Progression

The theme of “Progression” is embraced throughout the programme, but will be providing a headline stream each morning too. Get ready to be energised and inspired!

Each morning, a different area of “Progression” will be covered – helping you to look for all of the opportunities that a career in veterinary nursing can offer:

  • Making veterinary nursing a sustainable and progressive career
  • Leadership
  • Finance and business

Make sure you join keynote speaker Marie Rippingale on Saturday 12 October, as she poses the question “Progression of the VN profession – where are we now and where are we going?”.

“In Conversation”

Where do you see the VN profession heading in the future? Join this brand-new, collaborative and interactive stream on Saturday 12 October, where you’ll be able to feed into discussions amongst leaders within the veterinary profession about current issues:

  • Visions of future VN regulation
  • Contextualised care or holistic nursing care – one and the same?

Interactive learning

Alongside a packed lecture programme, BVNA Congress is also the place to be for hands-on, small group and collaborative learning.

Their interactive workshops are filling up quickly, with many already sold out. Simply add your workshop booking at the time of registration – don’t miss the opportunity to secure your place! The remaining workshops include:

  • Neurodiversity – encouraging curiosity, supporting people (FREE)
  • Massage and passive range of motion skills
  • Q&A: Haematology and biochemistry
  • Negative pressure wound therapy

Plus – join Burtons for their dedicated clinical teaching and product demonstration zones, throughout Friday 11 and Saturday 12 October.

New for 2024 – “BVNA Veterinary Clinic”

The experience of BVNA Congress would not be complete without a visit to the exhibition hall. The large space makes it easy to soak in its friendly community atmosphere; network with exhibitors, plus meet friends and colleagues whilst enjoying a break between lectures.

Make sure you drop into the exhibition’s new practical zone, for even more immersive learning.

Simulate a crash scenario, test your understanding of canine and feline body language, practice wound management and bandaging, run samples in the lab, and optimise your patient recovery environment. All this and more: a visit to the BVNA Veterinary Clinic provides the perfect way to identify areas to improve in your own practice, without the usual pressure of a clinic environment!

And for SVNs, we’ve even got OSCE stations for some all-important exam preparation while you’re there too.

Social events selling out quickly!

BVNA Congress provides a relaxed environment for learning, as well as opportunities to unwind and socialise with friends. Tickets are selling fast for our social events, with Friday’s Musical Bingo already sold out.

Saturday’s “Blue Light Party” will see our annual gala dinner and awards ceremony taking on an emergency services theme. With places in high demand, now’s the time to be a rapid responder – book your ticket before this popular social event sells out too!

Special rates for BVNA members, with a discounted rate also available to those who join BVNA and register for BVNA Congress at the same time. Register today via the BVNA website.
