It’s no secret that veterinary nursing students face a lot of challenges, especially when it comes to hands-on training. Immersive Learning Factory, a fresh face in educational technology, has launched a game-changing new solution for institutions training vet nurses.
In partnership with The College of Animal Welfare (CAW), the largest provider of veterinary nursing training in the UK, they’ve created the Companion Animal & Equine VR OSCEs Training Programmes.
Immersive Learning Factory isn’t just any new tech company. Their team has deep roots in both veterinary science and technology. With their expertise and CAW’s unmatched experience in training vet nurses, these new programs are about to take veterinary education by storm.
“Some big names are already coming on board”, said ILF’s lead programme developer Vaughn Lawson, “The Royal Veterinary College is consistently ranked as the top vet school in the world, and they were one of our very first customers – that tells you everything you need to know!”
Reimagining vet nurse training
These groundbreaking new programs allow students to step into immersive, life-like virtual environments. They can practice vital procedures as often as they need to without worrying about running out of time, equipment, or resources.
“For students, that means getting to build skills and confidence in a safe, pressure-free space”, says Lawson. “For schools, it means a massive reduction in spend on physical equipment, less waste, reduced carbon emissions… and they can scale their programs without needing more training space. The benefits are huge.”
Tackling the toughest challenges
Immersive Learning Factory created these programs after listening closely to the concerns of educators and students. Nina DeFranco, Head of Veterinary Studies at the College of Animal Welfare, told us: “We hear the same three pain points over and over again around OSCEs. Students don’t feel like they can get enough practical training due to time and resource constraints. And today’s students are tech-savvy and expect their training to match up with the tech they use daily. These programmes address all of those points – the industry has been crying out for a solution like this.”
A new way forward
With just a VR headset students can train anywhere, anytime to build the confidence, clinical skills and muscle memory they need to feel fully prepared for their OSCEs, and for their future careers. Lawson says: “It’s about helping providers to turn out more confident and more capable veterinary nurses – a recent PWC report showed that 40% of students who train with VR feel more confident applying their learning in real-world situations. And the programs reduce costs, streamline processes and improve sustainability. Everybody wins – the industry wins.”
Virtual reality is changing the face of veterinary nursing education, and Immersive Learning Factory is at the forefront of this transformation. You can find out more on the Immersive Learning Factory website or contact jen@immersivelearningfactory.com.
