Second Edition of the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Thoracic Imaging out now

A new edition of the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Thoracic Imaging, containing in-depth information on diagnostic imaging of the thorax, has been released

The British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) has released the second edition of their Manual of Canine and Feline Thoracic Imaging.

This new edition provides comprehensive text on diagnostic imaging of the thorax.

The thorax is the most difficult area to interpret in radiography due to the summation and constant motion of nearly all thoracic structures, the complexity of the functional aspects of the thoracic organs and the large degree of overlap of radiographic findings in physiological and pathological processes. This new edition aims to help meet this challenge.

The second edition of the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Thoracic Imaging also adds new scientific knowledge, mainly gained in computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), including knowledge that can be applied to radiographic interpretation, still the most widely used imaging modality for this body system.

The manual is organised into two sections. The first details the different imaging modalities and their recommended usage, and the second illustrating the features of normalcy and disease of the main anatomical compartments of the thorax.

It also includes dedicated sections on the principles of thoracic imaging interpretation and individual body systems, clearly structured for information retrieval. There is also a new chapter on the potential applications of artificial intelligence technology in thoracic imaging.

The BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Thoracic Imaging serves veterinary students, small animal practitioners, trainees, and specialists in diagnostic imaging alike as a modern comprehensive textbook and reference for small animal thoracic imaging.

Editors Tobias Schwarz and Peter Scrivani said: “We are grateful to the many radiologists and other specialists from around the world who contributed to this manual by writing chapters, supplying images, and providing feedback. Our aim was to ensure that the manual was as up-to-date, accurate and comprehensive as possible.”

Print copies are available through the BSAVA store, you can also access the digital version in the BSAVA Library. Prices are £61.75 for BSAVA members and £95.00 for non-members.
