Vet nurse shares multifaceted career journey at BVNA congress

Laura Hughes, Vet Nurse Development Manager at Purina will share her career journey with delegates at BVNA Congress, which is taking place Friday 11 to Sunday 13 October. After six years in practice, Laura has had a varied 22-year career at Purina encompassing customer service, business development, supply chain management and demand planning before taking up her current nurse development role. Her talk will discuss transferable skills from practice and Laura will be available on the Purina stand C1 for any nurses wishing to progress within practice or build upon their current knowledge base. On Friday at 10.30am Laura will give a talk in the exhibition hub on how to conduct effective nutritional conversations with confidence.

With a long-standing passion for effective communication and a strong belief in what can be achieved by a determined veterinary nurse, Laura has long championed the role in practice. Explaining why she wanted to share her career journey, she said, “I’ve been so lucky to have had quite as many varied and exciting opportunities, all within the same organisation. The skills I learned in practice, particularly around communication, time management, efficiency and initiative were valued from the start and that really builds confidence. As Purina Nurse Development Manager I want to make sure that I help empower others to grow their career and to enable them to grow their practices by truly appreciating and fully utilising the skills they have acquired.”

BVNA delegates looking to be inspired can hear about Laura’s career journey and insights at the exhibition hub on Sunday at 12.30pm and visit the Purina stand C1 for resources, games, giveaways and refreshments throughout the event.
