CVS launches Veterinary Nurses in Research training day

The training days will support nurses in learning how to critically assess and apply the latest evidence from scientific literature, with a focus on improving patient care

CVS is launching a new Veterinary Nurses in Research training day, which will be held in September. The day will be designed to give CVS nurses the tools and knowledge to enhance their practice through evidence-based veterinary nursing.

The sessions will be open to all nursing experience levels, from beginners and students to experienced managers. Nurses will learn how to critically assess and apply the latest evidence from scientific literature, with a focus on improving patient care.

The full day session will cover essential topics, such as conducting audits, evaluating case reports and interpreting research findings. Through interactive sessions, colleagues will explore practical techniques for integrating evidence into daily workflows, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring high standards of care.

Michelle Farrow, small animal research assistant at CVS, who is organising the training day, said: “Evidence-based veterinary nursing isn’t just for academics – it’s one of the fastest ways for nurses to boost their confidence, improve patient care, and stand out as a veterinary nurse.

“It’s not about replacing what nurses know, it’s about reinforcing and complementing their experience and clinical judgement with the best available evidence considering the individual patient, owner, and context.

“This will be an information packed day for our nurses to equip themselves with the skills to lead in evidence-based veterinary nursing. We hope that all of veterinary nurses enjoy the session!”

Two Veterinary Nurses in Research training days will be held during September, in both Harrogate and Bristol. It is expected that CVS nurses from practices across the country will attend.
