AWSELVA celebrates 25th anniversary of bringing together practical and academic multi-disciplinary animal welfare and ethics work

Association intends to hold an online celebratory webinar for members and others on Wednesday 2 December

The Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law Veterinary Association has around 300 direct members and is the supporting organisation for the European College subspecialty for AWSEL who have 120 diplomates and 25 residents training for specialist status in this field.

This year AWSELVA is celebrating its 25th anniversary, but sadly its face-to-face conference plans have been on hold since the spring. It now intends to hold an online celebratory webinar for members and others on Wednesday 2 December – “Looking back on developments in animal welfare over the last quarter century”.

The keynote talk is on the theme of how our evolutionary/historical interactions with animals influence those of today.

Siobhan Mullan, Chair of AWSELVA, University of Bristol says “The Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law Veterinary Association has been the pioneering voice in its field for the last 25 years. We are delighted to celebrate AWSELVA’s 25th anniversary by hosting the true forefathers of AWSEL to give their reflections on the Human-Animal relationship (Prof James Serpell) and developments in animal welfare science (Prof Don Broome), ethics (Prof David Morton) and law (Prof Mike Radford)”.

The event is for members – anyone can sign up for membership on the AWSELVA website (£35, free to undergraduate students) and book.
