Exploratory laparotomy

This video outlines the exploratory laparotomy procedure. During the exploration of the abdominal cavity, various organs and structures are assessed. The terminal oesophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, pancreas, portal vein, hepatic artery, liver and biliary system, adrenal glands, kidneys, greater omentum, spleen, bladder, ureters, urethra, reproductive organs, lymph nodes and internal surface of the abdominal wall are all examined. The procedure concludes with abdominal lavage, suction and swab count before the abdomen is closed.
