Incoming VMG President highlights role of leadership in a fast-changing world

VMG will start to build an evidence base for veterinary leadership and develop innovative educational activities and resources

The incoming President of the Veterinary Management Group, Mr Richard (Rich) Casey, will focus the association on developing its members’ leadership skills and confidence to ensure that their businesses thrive in a 21st century world.

Rich Casey joined the VMG Board in 2017 and took over as President from Mrs Gillian Page RVN during SPVS-VMG Congress on 24 January 2020. He intends to serve a two-year term. He says that the VMG will start to build an evidence base for veterinary leadership during his presidency to inform its future plans, in addition to developing innovative educational activities and resources to meet the rapidly changing needs of veterinary practice in the 2020s.

Rich Casey heads up Clinical Development at charity Blue Cross. His role includes exploring new ways to deliver sustainable veterinary services that meet the needs of pets and their owners. Before joining Blue Cross, he held a variety of roles at PDSA.

VMG is the UK’s leading association for those working in leadership and management roles in the veterinary sector. A not-for-profit organisation, it works to champion the professional and personal development of those in the veterinary profession through CPD, networking, certified management accreditation and the provision of educational resources.

Commenting on becoming President of the VMG, Rich Casey said: “Gillian was a fantastic President and the VMG grew as an association during 2019. The challenges our industry faces are increasing as it changes more quickly than ever. I genuinely believe that any obstacles can be overcome and success achieved through strong and confident leadership so supporting our members in their quest to become more effective leaders is our biggest opportunity and our biggest challenge. It’s what made me want to join VMG in the first place. As President, I will work with the VMG Board and Regional Organisers, as well as our industry partners, to help our members to realise their full potential and, importantly, to enjoy doing so. It will be an exciting year!”
