Veterinary receptionists gather to learn, share and celebrate at the BVRA’s 3rd annual congress

Over 130 veterinary receptionists gathered together on 1 and 2 October for the third British Veterinary Receptionists Association annual congress at Hinkley Island, Leicestershire

The well attended British Veterinary Receptionist Association (BVRA)’s 3rd annual congress, was an opportunity for veterinary receptionists to meet others in similar roles, share experiences, further their knowledge and celebrate the value and importance that this role has in practice.

Delegates enjoyed an interesting speaker programme that included nutritional myths (Royal Canin), sustainability in practice (Eco Offset), an NLP session by Steph Writer-Davies, MRCVS, and quality improvement (RCVS Knowledge), as well as special guest speakers from Canine Partners and the Pet Blood Bank.

The event was very well supported by the wider industry, creating a diverse and interactive exhibition hall for delegates to enjoy.

The BVRA Congress coincided with Veterinary Receptionists Appreciation Day on 1 October. This national event attracted high levels of engagement on social media with practices recognising and celebrating their reception teams. The BVRA encouraged this appreciation with online competitions and in practice resources to promote interaction and celebration.

Friday evening saw the delegates enjoy a dinner and party night during which our hard-working front of house heroes were able to let their hair down with an entertaining round of music bingo followed by a disco. A much-needed treat following a difficult 18 months for all.

Hayley Goodier-Page of Nantwich Pet Vets was crowned the winner of this year’s Veterinary Receptionist of the Year award. Hayley was nominated by her colleague Dervla Martin, MRCVS, who felt that Hayley deserved this award not only for her care, compassion and dedication towards clients and colleagues but for her determination and hard work during the pandemic, organising the logistics of car park consult check-ins, etc, and keeping spirits up by dressing up as a Christmas tree!

A well-deserved winner and big congratulations to Hayley.

BVRA is delighted to offer veterinary receptionists and client care teams their own dedicated event and to recognise that they hold an important role within the practice. It is empowering for the role and a great way to value these hard-working colleagues.

A huge thank you to the BVRA sponsors Boehringer Ingelheim, Royal Canin, Petplan UK, National Veterinary Services Limited, PG Mutual, FELIWAY Optimum and VisioCare Services UK for support in this event.

The BVRA Congress 2022 will take place on Friday 30 September to Saturday 1 October, for more information please visit the BVRA website.
