What is Refresher Training?
Following a number of requests from Official Veterinarians, OVs, Improve International agreed with The Animal and Plant Health Authority, APHA, to make ten of the OCQ(V) courses available for a limited time, at a special price, to existing Grandfather Rights holders only. Many OVs studied a long time ago and wish to update their knowledge ahead of revalidation and so this training is appropriately entitled ‘refresher training’.
The refresher training covers the full OCQ(V) but does not include pre and post course questions or a final exam. As there is no exam, studying these courses will not affect your current OV status or revalidation date. (Please note that this is online training only and the OCQ(V) TT refresher training does not include a practical assessment.)
How is the Training Accessed?
OVs with Grandfather Rights can access the refresher training through their Personal Training Dashboard via www.improve-ov.com. Please use your registered email address as your login ID. You were sent a password at registration but this can be requested again if required.
You may review your Grandfather Rights OCQ(V)s on the overview page from which you can then enrol for the relevant ‘Refresher Training’. Click on the ‘Details’ blue box on the right hand side, and then ‘Enrol for online learning’ where it says ‘Access online refresher training’. Once you have successfully registered and paid you will then receive access to the full online training course which will be available for one year after enrolment. The prices are shown on the fees page at www.improve-ov.com.
How does doing refresher training impact on my revalidation?
When it comes to revalidation, you will be asked to provide evidence of relevant CPD you have undertaken to support this field of work. This should be done via your Personal Training Dashboard and you may want to start updating it now, and do this as you go along, rather than wait for revalidation to begin. OVs will also need to demonstrate that they have completed at least ten hours of appropriate CPD and the refresher training will count towards that total. Although everyone studies at their own pace, each OCQ(V) is nominally worth six hours’ CPD. You will be able to download a certificate of completion for your CPD records.
Improve International will be writing to all OVs ahead of revalidation which will be due between 31 March 2017 and 31 March 2019, depending on the OCQ(V). Further information is available from www.improve-ov.com. There was also an article in the previous edition of OV digital.
