Ventral bulla osteotomy

This video outlines the ventral bulla osteotomy procedure in a cat. The cat is positioned in dorsal recumbency, using aids to ensure they are lying straight. The bulla is palpated, a skin incision is made, and dissection is performed. Digital palpation throughout helps with localisation of the ventral aspect of the bulla. An osteotomy is performed using a Jacob’s chuck and Steinmann pins to gain access to the bulla. The bulla is cleared of material and polyps are removed. Copious lavage and suction are performed. The rostral lateral cavity is treated by perforating the bony septum, retrieving tissue material, and performing lavage and suction. The incision is then closed.
