A group of vets will launch the Progressive Veterinary Association (PVA), an ethically-driven campaigning organisation, on the 22 November at an event in London, with actor and animal advocate Peter Egan as keynote speaker.
The PVA aims to encourage greater dialogue within the veterinary profession, the public and the government on critical animal welfare issues.
Professor Andrew Knight will give an overview of how thinking on animal protection issues in the veterinary profession sometimes lags behind the views of the general public.
There will be multiple five minute presentations on animal welfare issues – including badger culling, horse racing, brachycephalic dogs, factory farming, animal experiments, exotic pets – by the PVA directors and invited guests.
Patrons of the PVA are primatologist and UN Envoy for Peace Jane Goodall, DBE; Professor Ranald Munro, former head of pathology at Defra and chairman of the Independent Expert Panel on Badger Culling; and Peter Egan.
The directors of the PVA are vets Dr Iain McGill, Dr Alice Brough, Dr Andre Menache and Dr Bronwen Eastwood, and barrister Nigel Edwards KC is the PVA’s legal advisor.
A few places for the launch have been reserved for readers, so please email info@pva.vet if you would like to attend.
