Ultrasound-guided sciatic nerve block

This video demonstrates how to perform an ultrasound-guided sciatic nerve block. A linear probe is placed at the level of the femur, which is identified due to acoustic shadowing. The probe is moved caudally until a ‘peanut-like’ image is identified – this is the sciatic nerve. The needle is inserted from a caudal direction until it reaches the sciatic nerve, where it is positioned in the surrounding fascia. Local anaesthetic is injected, surrounding the sciatic nerve.
